What You're Signing Up For

This course enables students to progress into command roles aboard fishing or commercial vessels as a master (<500GT Near Coastal) or limited area fishing skipper. The qualification provides essential skills in navigation, vessel operations, and management, including practical simulator learning. Graduates will meet the requirements to apply for Maritime New Zealand certificates, subject to additional MNZ criteria.

What you need to know first

Open entry for domestic students

Recommended: Officer of the Watch (OOW) <500GT Near Coastal or Mate Fishing Vessel limited or Skipper Coastal and Offshore or equivalent licence

For international students: IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5

Applicants must check additional Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) prior certification and service requirements for licensing
