Certified use of agrichemicals
Be able to use agrichemicals independently and without supervision, meeting EPA and Regional Authorities' minimum requirements.

Supervise and manage others
Be qualified to supervise others in the use of agrichemicals and move into roles with added responsibility.

Ensure health, safety, and compliance
Protect people, animals, and the environment, ensure food safety, and fulfill legal requirements for the use and disposal of agrichemicals.
What You're Signing Up For
The GROWSAFE Standard Course is designed for experienced agrichemical users who wish to supervise or manage chemical use in fields such as horticulture, agriculture, forestry, and environmental management. Offered by a certified GROWSAFE trainer, the course covers hazard identification, safe handling, record keeping, legal requirements, and emergency responses concerning agrichemicals. Successful participants will be awarded the GROWSAFE Standard Certificate after completing both written and practical assessments, certifying them to use agrichemicals independently and oversee others.
Course Content
- Agrichemical formulations and mode of action
- Risks, hazard classifications, and descriptions
- Risk management, training, emergency management
- Spray planning and notifications
- Transport and storage of agrichemicals
- Spraying preparation, PPE, and mixing
- Post-spraying cleanup, disposal, record keeping
- Withholding period and re-entry interval
- Emergencies, poisoning, spills, and spill kits
- Relevant NZ legislation (HSNO, RMA, ACVM, HSW Acts, NZS 8409)

Growsafe Basic Certificate (or equivalent knowledge)
One season’s practical agrichemical spraying experience
