This agriculture certificate is the foundational step toward a career in New Zealand's primary industries, particularly in sheep, beef, and dairy farming. The 44-week course equips students with practical and theoretical skills, including farm safety, livestock management, fencing, pasture management, and the operation of farm vehicles and equipment. Learners undertake at least 10 weeks of work experience, blending real-world skills with classroom learning at the Telford campus and farm.

What you need to know first

Minimum age 16 at course start

Should have attained NCEA Level 2 or equivalent

Applicants without NCEA Level 2 must show evidence of ability to succeed (e.g. prior study at level 2+, relevant work experience, testimonial)

Applicants over 20 must demonstrate ability to succeed

Interview (on-campus or by phone) may be required

Recommended: Working towards restricted driver's license

Level of physical fitness suitable for farm work
