You’ll get to grips with the practical management systems and the under-pinning theory of nutrition, reproduction, growth and health of beef cattle and deer, plus the factors affecting their production. The course covers genetic improvement, breeding records, nutrition planning, disease recognition and prevention, production efficiency assessment, and product quality from beef cattle and deer herds.
Course Content
- Genetic improvement and use of breeding records for selection of replacement animals
- Practical management systems including nutrition, breeding, reproduction, growth, and health of beef cattle and deer
- Preparation of feed profiles for different classes of beef cattle and deer
- Setting production levels and calculating feed requirements
- Recognition of ill health and disease prevention and treatment
- Evaluation of production efficiency including husbandry and management during mating, pregnancy, calving and lactation
- Importance of factors influencing the quality of products from beef cattle and deer herds
