What You're Signing Up For

The New Zealand Certificate in Conservation (Operations) (Level 4) equips learners with the skills and knowledge required for operational conservation work. Students develop technical and practical abilities in environmental stewardship, ecology, risk management, communication, and understanding mātauranga Māori, with a focus on working respectfully with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, local iwi, and hapū. Delivery includes on-campus and workplace-based practical learning.

  • Weed Management - principles and best practice
  • Vehicle Handling in conservation settings
  • Chainsaw safety and use; basic construction in remote sites
  • New Zealand Ecology and Wāhi Tapu
  • Mātauranga Māori (Māori worldview)
  • Kaitiakitanga and Rangatiratanga (guardianship and self-determination)
  • Risk Assessment and Conservation Technology
  • Professional Communication and relevant conservation legislation
  • Animal Pest Management, including toxin handler licensing

Achieved NCEA Level 2 (credits in Numeracy, Science or English desirable) OR

NZ Certificate in Pest Operations (Level 3) OR

Equivalent Academic Achievement OR
