This diploma introduces students to New Zealand’s diverse ecosystems, focusing on both theoretical and practical skills needed for the environmental sector. Learners study global and local environmental issues, sustainability, ecosystems (terrestrial and marine), flora and fauna, and apply ecological monitoring techniques. The programme also incorporates field-based activities on the protection and restoration of natural, rural, and urban environments. Upon completion, graduates can contribute to the conservation and environmental management industry.

What you need to know first

Minimum age: 16 years

A minimum of 42 credits at NCEA Level 3 or equivalent

Relevant Level 4 qualification OR equivalent work experience (possible at discretion of Programme Leader)

English language: IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5, or international equivalent

Physically capable of programme-specific outcomes
