This course teaches the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis tools for problem-solving, planning environmental issues, and sustainable management of natural resources. Topics include remote sensing, GPS, cartography, data entry and manipulation using ArcGIS, geodatabase creation, satellite imagery classification, and map creation with advanced cartographic techniques.

  • Remote Sensing and Geographic Positioning Systems concepts and methods
  • Cartography and mapping fundamentals
  • Spatial problem deconstruction from GIS perspective
  • Individual GIS-based analysis project problem solving
  • GIS concepts, methods, and results communication both written and oral
  • ArcGIS 10.5 and/or ArcGIS Pro software competency
  • Geodatabase creation and utilization
  • Incorporation of GPS and remote sensing data into GIS projects
  • Unsupervised and supervised satellite imagery classifications
  • Map creation using symbology, 3D, and cartographic techniques
