Core skills this course teaches

Develop core primary industry and conservation skills
Gain hands-on experience in restoration planting, pest control, nursery work, and erosion management with a focus on environmental protection.

Use and maintain tools and equipment
Learn safe use and maintenance of mechanised and specialist equipment relevant to conservation and land management.

Plan and implement environmental projects
Participate in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of real-world environmental projects in collaboration with conservation experts.
What You're Signing Up For
This 32-week full-time programme combines the NZ Certificate in Primary Industry Skills (Level 2) and NZ Certificate in Primary Industry Operational Skills (Level 3), with a special emphasis on kaitiakitanga (conservation and environmental protection). Training includes both theoretical and practical components, exposure to local conservation sites, guest speakers, and hands-on project work. Graduates will be equipped for work in the primary industries sector with particular strengths in conservation, ready for employment or further study.

What you need to know first
Open entry for Level 2: reasonable reading level required
For Level 3: NCEA Level 1 or a qualification at Level 1 or above (with evidence of equivalent literacy/numeracy), or relevant knowledge and experience (subject to interview)
Must be at least 16 years of age at commencement
Physically able to complete programme-specific outcomes
