Core skills this course teaches

Perform electrical maintenance
Learners will be able to maintain fittings and appliances connected to electrical conductors.

Connect and disconnect appliances
Learners will be able to safely connect and disconnect directly connected appliances from fixed wiring.

Test electrical work
Learners will be able to perform necessary electrical testing on work they carry out.
What You're Signing Up For
The Electrical Service Technician qualification allows the holder to connect and disconnect directly connected appliances and/or equipment from the fixed wiring. This course is delivered over 6 consecutive Fridays at UCOL Manawatū, Palmerston North, preparing learners to undertake the Electrical Service Technician examination. Prerequisite course: Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (formerly ESTA). The course covers the maintenance, connection, disconnection, testing, certification, and supervision of electrical fittings and appliances in accordance with Electrical Workers Registration Board standards. Learners must complete 18 months practical training to gain the full qualification. Domestic fees are approximately $785 NZD, inclusive of GST and student services levy. Additional compulsory course costs may apply.
Course Content
- Connecting and disconnecting appliances from fixed wiring
- Maintenance of electrical fittings connected to conductors
- Testing of electrical work as defined by Electrical Workers Registration Board
- Certification and supervision of electrical work
- Preparation for Electrical Service Technician theory and practical assessments
- Safety and compliance with Electricity Act 1992 and Electrical (Safety) Regulations 2010
