What You're Signing Up For

This part-time course is designed for registered electricians aiming to work as qualified electrical inspectors. It combines theoretical learning with practical site visits, focusing on inspection procedures, safety regulations, legal responsibilities, testing, and documentation. Students develop skills needed to pass national Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) assessments. The course does not meet the requirements for StudyLink loans or allowances.

  • Current electrical legislation, standards, and codes of practice
  • Use of electrical test instruments
  • Inspection of electrical installations
  • Visual, physical, and instrumental testing in specialized/hazardous areas
  • Site visits to diverse locations (e.g., meat works, motor camp, marina)
  • Recording and reporting of inspection results
  • Legal responsibilities of electrical inspectors
  • Preparation for EWRB Electrical Inspector Theory exam

What you need to know first

EWRB or Qualified Engineer Registration Certificate

Current electrical practising licence

Current First Aid Certificate (unit standards 6401/6402 or 26551/26552)

Three years' experience as a registered electrician (required for inspector registration)
