Core skills this course teaches

Apply practical electrical skills under supervision
Graduates will be able to use foundation electrical techniques and principles, working safely and effectively as required by New Zealand law.

Demonstrate underpinning knowledge of electrical systems
Students will understand basic concepts in electrical theory and technology necessary to perform entry-level tasks in electrical roles.

Prepare for further electrical training and apprenticeship
Graduates will be equipped to enter electrical apprenticeships or progress to Level 4 or higher qualifications in related fields.

This Level 3 certificate is designed to provide students with underpinning electrical knowledge and practical skills required to start a career in the electrical industry. Graduates will be able to apply their skills under supervision in accordance with legislative requirements and be well placed to progress into an electrical apprenticeship or further study. The course emphasises hands-on learning and supports students in gaining work experience that improves their employment prospects.

What you need to know first
NCEA Level 2 with Mathematics and English
Equivalent knowledge and skills for entry
Pass Colour Blindness test (non-standard entry)
Successful interview and academic entry test (non-standard entry)
English Language: IELTS 5.0 (no band lower than 5.0) or equivalent (if English is not first language)
