What You're Signing Up For

The Bachelor of Design at Wintec allows students to develop their creativity and innovation skills in two majors: Visual Communication (graphic design) and Spatial Design (interior design). The degree blends project-based learning, design studios, and industry internships, preparing graduates to tackle challenges in branding, digital design, and the built environment. Students gain practical experience through studio projects, 'project zones', and real-world industry partnership modules, culminating in a major internship and capstone projects in the third year.

  • Visual Communication modules: Graphic design for print/publication/packaging, branding and logo development, illustration, web and interactive design, motion graphics
  • Spatial Design modules: Design for residential and commercial spaces, communication skills for pitching to clients, construction knowledge, project management
  • Industry projects and internships
  • Electives in areas such as graphic design fundamentals, textile design, contemporary art, photography
  • Project modules: Research Methods, Capstone Project, Freelance Project, Design Factory Industry Project
  • Participation in creative, multi-disciplinary projects and exhibitions

What you need to know first

NCEA Level 3 comprised of 60 credits at NCEA Level 3 or above and 20 credits at NCEA Level 2 or above, including 14 credits at NCEA Level 3 in three approved subjects (including a language rich subject), literacy (10 credits at NCEA Level 2 or above), numeracy (10 credits at NCEA Level 1 or above)

OR a relevant level 4 qualification OR equivalent

In exceptional cases: 60 credits at NCEA Level 2 across four subjects including 12 credits in a language rich subject (or equivalent)

Portfolio submission may be required if entry criteria are not met

Applicants with English as a second language: IELTS score of 6.0 with no band lower than 5.5, or equivalent
