What You're Signing Up For

The Bachelor of Design (Product) at Otago Polytechnic is a hands-on qualification exploring the design of products, services and systems for improved living. The programme covers practical skills such as conceptualisation, sketching, prototyping, CAD, and graphic design. Students develop both specialist and transferable skills, including project management, communication, and marketing. The curriculum balances theoretical content and studio-based projects with numerous opportunities for industry collaboration. Graduates will be well-equipped for entry-level roles in design or entrepreneurship, or further postgraduate study.

What you need to know first

NCEA Level 3, including 14 credits at Level 3 in each of three NZQA approved university entrance subjects

10 Literacy credits at Level 2 or above (5 in reading, 5 in writing)

10 Numeracy credits at Level 1 or above

Submission of a portfolio (unless eligible for automatic entry or portfolio pre-approval)

May be required to attend an interview

International students: Secondary school qualification equivalent to NZ’s NCEA levels and minimum English language proficiency (IELTS overall 6.0, minimum writing 6.0, speaking 6.0, reading 5.5, listening 5.5) or accepted equivalent
