What You're Signing Up For

This 40-week diploma equips students with the complete toolkit of skills needed for modern screen production. From storyboarding, scripting, and art direction, to shooting, lighting, audio, editing, and collaborative project work, students follow industry-standard processes and graduate with a New Zealand Diploma in Screen Production (Level 5). The course is hands-on, utilizing current software and equipment, and prepares graduates for entry-level work in film, television, and digital content creation.

  • Screen content creation processes and principles
  • Storyboarding and shot listing
  • Scriptwriting and storytelling techniques
  • Planning and managing locations
  • Art direction for dramatic and factual content
  • Camera work (including multi-cam shooting)
  • Lighting for video
  • Audio recording and mixing (Adobe Audition)
  • Editing (Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects)
  • Adding graphics and visual effects
  • Scripting and directing commercials, music videos, and drama
  • End-of-year collaborative screen project

What you need to know first

Minimum 16 years of age

NCEA Level 2 or equivalent

Basic computer skills

Interest in film

Completion of an interview with a relevant staff member
