Course Content

  • Research practice: major studio-based research project and parallel written research paper (900 hours)
  • Contemporary theory: survey of recent theories in arts and media (300 hours)
  • Tutorials, critiques, and peer review
  • Independent practical and theoretical research
  • Access to technical staff and industry-standard facilities
  • Two core modules: Research Practice (90 credits), Contemporary Theory (30 credits)

What you need to know first

Bachelor of Media Arts with a mark average of 65% or better in 4 level 7 modules and 65% in two contextual modules at level 5 and 6

OR an undergraduate degree in communication, visual arts, design, or music with equivalent marks

OR a history of professional experience in communication, visual arts, design or music with ability to conduct independent research (as assessed by interview and portfolio)

Portfolio of recent work for non-Wintec graduates

English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0) or equivalent
