The course is designed for both new entrants and existing workers seeking a better grasp of the ‘big picture’ in pavement surfacing, including planning, execution, equipment and materials selection, safety, and quality assurance.

- Basic Bitumen Safety and Hazard Identification
- Chipseal and Asphalt Surfacing Types
- Job Planning – materials, equipment, and subcontractors
- Selecting the right mix and equipment
- Marking out and measuring the job
- Quality – records and HOLD points
- Chipseal Construction Basics (traffic control, binder/applications, seal design, chip application and rolling, line marking)
- Asphalt Construction Basics (preseal treatments, asphalt type/thickness, AC supply, trucking coordination, mix temperature, tack coating, membrane sealing, compaction control, QA, line marking, client satisfaction)
