Work safely and responsibly on infrastructure works sites
Graduates will understand and apply health and safety requirements, identify workplace hazards and follow safe work practices on infrastructure sites.

Perform basic infrastructure works activities
Graduates will confidently perform practical infrastructure works tasks including manual excavation, aggregate knowledge, operation, care and maintenance of small machinery.
What You're Signing Up For
The New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 2) by UCOL prepares learners to work safely and responsibly on infrastructure works sites and perform basic infrastructure works activities. It covers health and safety legislation, employee responsibilities, hazard identification, teamwork, communication, and practical skills including excavation and use of small machinery. The programme is a 14-week full-time course based in Palmerston North, designed for those starting or progressing in the infrastructure works industry. It includes 40 credits covering introduction to infrastructure works and team skills, health and safety, and infrastructure tools and equipment. The programme is NZQA approved and delivered by UCOL.
Course Content
- Introduction to infrastructure works and team skill requirements covering Health and Safety in Employment Act, employee and employer rights and responsibilities, workplace hazard identification and management, time management, teamwork, communication (15 Credits)
- Health, safety and the environment relevant to infrastructure works sector (16 Credits)
- Infrastructure works tools and equipment including materials for compacting, use of tools and equipment on infrastructure works sites, excavation skills (9 Credits)
