What You're Signing Up For
This Level 3 certificate programme provides students with the foundational skills required to work in the collision repair and automotive refinishing industry. Students will learn about health and safety, use of tools and workshop equipment, automotive component removal and replacement, basic panel repair, and the preparation of vehicles for refinishing. Graduates will be ready for entry-level positions in automotive repair, including panel beating and refinishing roles.
Course Content
- Health, Safety and Tools: Following workplace policies, procedures and regulations for safe and effective work.
- Cooling and HVAC: Identify, remove, replace, and store HVAC and cooling systems components.
- Light Engineering: Use hand/power tools and equipment for workshop engineering tasks.
- Vehicle Exterior and Interior Components: Remove, replace, and store vehicle components as per company policy.
- Critical Vehicle Systems: Identify and work on critical systems like brakes, steering, suspension, safety, and electrical components.
- Assess for Appropriate Repair Procedure: Tools, products, and equipment for minor repair assessment.
- Repair Minor Panel Damage: Conduct minor panel damage repair on vehicles.
- Prepare Vehicle Components for Refinishing: Prepare and repair vehicle components for refinishing using industry practices.
What you need to know first
NCEA Level 1 or equivalent academic achievement, or at the discretion of the Executive Dean.
A Class 1 full driver’s licence (or working towards) is recommended.
Basic computing skills are an advantage.
