What You're Signing Up For

This certificate programme equips students with the skills and knowledge required to enter an apprenticeship in plumbing, gasfitting, or drainlaying. Students learn about the latest industry technologies and trends, safe working procedures, legal and ethical industry practices, and get hands-on experience in simulated environments. The course includes training in health and safety, first aid, and prepares graduates for work under supervision as apprentices in these trades.

Course Content

  • Industry conduct, ethics, and legal practices
  • Health and safety procedures in plumbing, gasfitting, and drainlaying
  • Hazard identification in relevant working environments
  • Installation of basic plumbing systems and components
  • Installation of basic gasfitting systems and components
  • Installation of basic drainlaying systems and components
  • Hot and cold water supply
  • Sanitary plumbing for appliances and fixtures
  • Foul water systems
  • Drainlaying including associated components
  • Basic sheet metal skills
  • Training in simulated environments (indoor/outdoor facilities, working under flooring, enclosed spaces, drain laying pits, etc.)
  • First aid training

What you need to know first

Be at least 16 years old at the time the programme commences.

Be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level.

Be physically able to complete the programme-specific outcomes.

Applicants for whom English is not a first language must have an IELTS score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5, or an accepted international equivalence.
