What You're Signing Up For

Kick-start your career and prepare for an apprenticeship or a job as a labourer in construction projects. You'll learn foundation carpentry skills and theory, gain hands-on practical experience, and acquire knowledge in construction compliance, reading drawings, calculations, safety, building technology, and working with different construction materials. The programme is designed to get you work-ready for the building and construction sector.

Course Content

  • Work safely in accordance with construction sector compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Effective communication with colleagues and customers in the construction industry
  • Reading and using specifications and drawings to complete construction projects
  • Performing simple calculations for familiar construction tasks
  • Understanding and applying carpentry terminology and concepts
  • Basic building technology and materials (timber, concrete, steel, composites)
  • Understanding and using interior and exterior linings and fixings
  • Construction and installation processes and techniques
  • Carrying out carpentry work in a project environment

What you need to know first

Be at least 16 years old at the start of the programme.

Be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level.

Be physically able to complete programme-specific outcomes.

For non-English first language speakers: IELTS 5.5 with no band lower than 5, or accepted equivalence.
