The Building Facilities Management course explores the issues and analytical techniques related to facilities and infrastructure of real property. Students learn about the structure and roles within the facilities management industry with emphasis on common practices, contracts, and legislation such as the Building Act and Code. The course critically analyses options related to form, function, materials, performance, and delivery methods for large-scale buildings, their services and maintenance. Technical aspects of common building materials, components, and services are studied to enable sound judgements on performance and maintenance implications. Communication skills with service providers, consultants, and other professionals are also developed.
