Understand the structure and roles within the facilities management industry and be familiar with common practices, contracts and legislation such as the Building Act and Code, Fire Evacuation Regulations and disabled access requirements.

Critically analyse options in terms of form, function, materials, performance and delivery methods for large-scale buildings, their services and maintenance.

Familiarise with technical aspects of common building materials, components and services to make judgements on their performance and maintenance implications.

The Building Facilities Management course explores the issues and analytical techniques related to facilities and infrastructure of real property. Students learn about the structure and roles within the facilities management industry with emphasis on common practices, contracts, and legislation such as the Building Act and Code. The course critically analyses options related to form, function, materials, performance, and delivery methods for large-scale buildings, their services and maintenance. Technical aspects of common building materials, components, and services are studied to enable sound judgements on performance and maintenance implications.
