What You're Signing Up For
The Certificate in Building Compliance (Level 4) is a specialised, industry-driven qualification for those working in or seeking to enter the building compliance sector. The programme, unique in New Zealand, offers the foundational knowledge and practical experience needed to operate as a Building Compliance Officer or an Independent Qualified Person (IQP). It focuses on legislation interpretation, compliance documentation, and the processes to achieve and maintain compliance with NZ building regulations. The course blends online, face-to-face workshops, and workplace-based practicum to meet the requirements of busy professionals.

- Building Regulatory Environment for Building Compliance
- Specified Systems and Compliance
- Building Compliance Inspection and Reporting
- Legislation relevant to the Building Act 2004 and New Zealand Building Code
- Documentation management in compliance contexts
- Work-integrated practicum (240 hours)
- Customer service and communication in building regulatory environments
- Operating within regulatory frameworks, including government departments and industry bodies
- Technical and administrative aspects of building regulatory processes
What you need to know first
18 years or older
NZ or Australian citizenship/residency
Currently working in a technical role in the building compliance environment or similar (for in-employment admission)
General Admission: Minimum four years secondary education, plus 10 NCEA credits in English and 10 in maths at Level 1 or above, or equivalent, or Level 3+ qualification
Special Admission: Age 20+ with evidence of aptitude/work/life experience, possibly with interview and referee checks
For EAL students: Evidence of appropriate English proficiency at Level 4
