What You're Signing Up For

The NZ Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Allied Trades) (Level 3) at EIT offers project and task-based training for those seeking a career in the construction industry. You’ll develop foundational, practical skills in carpentry and allied trades, with experience using modern facilities and engaging with local industry partners. The programme includes work experience, compliance training, and opportunities to earn credits towards the NZ Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4). Graduates are well-prepared for apprenticeships or further study in construction trades.

  • Effective communication in construction environments
  • Reading and using specifications and drawings for projects
  • Introductory applied calculations for building tasks
  • Understanding and applying carpentry terminology and concepts
  • Using building technology, materials, fixings, and hardware
  • Construction and installation processes and techniques
  • Practical project-based carpentry work
  • Industry work experience

What you need to know first

Applicants under 20: NCEA Level 1 (including Maths and English) or equivalent qualification

Non-standard entry: NZ Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trades Skills [Level 3] and alternative academic entry test, or successful interview and alternative academic entry test

All applicants: Must have physical mobility to meet demands of construction site work

If English is not first language: IELTS Academic 5 (no band lower than 5) or equivalent
