What You're Signing Up For
The Bachelor of Software Engineering at Yoobee integrates computer science, programming, art/design, social science, and business knowledge, with a focus on Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Game Development, and Web & App Development. Students complete real-world projects, gain practical and technical skills across multiple industry areas, and can specialise in their field of interest. The first year of study can be covered by the Creative Pathfinder Scholarship with zero tuition fees. Graduates receive a NZQA Level 7 Bachelor qualification.
Course Content
- UX design I & II: Foundation principles, tools, and best practices for content and user experience design.
- Development Principles I & II: Fundamentals of programming, development tools, and creating modern applications.
- Project Work I & II: Introduction to software development lifecycle (SDLC) via collaborative projects.
- Foundation of Data Science: Data analytics pipeline, data management, analytics, machine learning, and modelling platforms.
- Artificial Intelligence: AI systems, reasoning, search methods, intelligent agents, machine learning, robotics, NLP, computer vision, and AI classifications.
- Cloud Computing Fundamentals: Cloud concepts, models, security, architecture, microservices, scaling, deployment models, and vendor technology.
- Cloud Application Development: Cloud solution design, integration, administration, vendor tools, and certification preparation.
- Networking and Systems Administration: Networking fundamentals, systems administration, hardware/software stacks, infrastructure, monitoring, and performance optimization.
- Cyber Security: Attacks, malware analysis, hardware and network security, cryptography, threats, vulnerability management, privacy and anonymity.
- Technical Design for Software: Software architecture, design patterns, UML, and project modelling.
- Game Development (Creative): Designing and developing games and understanding their impact in society.
- Society, Enterprise, Innovation: Exploring games' role beyond entertainment.
- Investigative Studio: Capstone project design and development.
- Capstone project/internship: Commercial or social project development as part of a team.
- Industry software: Unity, Unreal, C#, Android Studio, ARCore, ARToolKit.
What you need to know first
All applicants must be at least 16 years (domestic) or 18 years (international).
Interview required to determine eligibility.
General Admission: NCEA University Entrance (UE) or equivalent CIE/IB grades, or equivalent qualification from overseas.
Demonstrated ability in art and design, mathematics and/or computing/digital technologies.
Discretionary Admission: Significant level of achievement in Year 12 or completion of relevant tertiary programme, with portfolio (under 20).
Special Admission: Over 20 years, NZ citizen/resident, with relevant skills and portfolio or industry experience.
International: IELTS (Academic) 6.0 if English not first language.
