What You're Signing Up For

This micro-credential provides practical skills for efficient and reliable cyber security operations in the context of the New Zealand IT industry. It is designed for adults with IT industry experience looking to upskill or move into cyber technician roles, as well as school leavers with some prior IT background. Learners will use both synchronous webinars and asynchronous modules along with iLab exercises to develop core operational cyber security competencies.

Course Content

  • Cyber security operations in the NZ IT industry
  • Synchronous group webinars (4 sessions)
  • Six asynchronous modules (practice activities, discussions, reflection)
  • iLab activities—safe testing/practicing in secure environments
  • Summative assessment project
  • Protecting organisational networks, data, and devices
  • Use of operating systems (Windows, Linux)
  • Basic networking and routine network functions

What you need to know first

Basic IT knowledge, equivalent to level 5 or above, or relevant work experience

Ability to perform basic IT tasks: install software, use Windows/Linux, create and support networks
