What You're Signing Up For

The Bachelor of Commerce at SIT provides essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills for thriving in local and international business environments. Students choose from two majors—Management or Marketing—and study a blend of compulsory core business papers and specialist subjects in their selected major. The programme includes academic theory, interactive learning, real-world business experiences, and provides strong commercial grounding suitable for a wide range of business careers. Graduates will develop analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills, leadership abilities, and a global business mindset.

  • Year 1 compulsory papers: Introduction to Accounting and Taxation, Commercial Law, Economics, Organisations in an Aotearoa NZ Context, Business Environments
  • Year 1 major-dependent/elective papers: Human Resources, Marketing, Applied Accounting, Analysis for Financial Information, Budgets for Planning and Control, Business Functions, Change and Innovation, People and Development, Health, Safety and Wellbeing, Change and HR Initiatives, Buyer Behaviour, Digital Marketing, Sales and Relationship Management, Tourism, Food and Beverage Management, Hotel Operations, Hospitality Service Delivery Systems
  • Year 2: Intermediate Management Accounting, Intermediate Financial Accounting, Taxation in NZ, Introduction to Finance, Data Analytics, Law of Business Entities, Research Methods, Accounting Information Systems, Contemporary Tourism, Financial Management for Business, Entrepreneurship, Facilities Management in Hospitality, Organisational Behaviour, Change Management, Operations Management, Human Resource Development, Employment Relations, Consumer Behaviour, Integrated Marketing Communication, Marketing Management, Services Management and Marketing

What you need to know first

University Entrance (NCEA Level 3) with three subjects at Level 3 (14 credits each in NZQA approved subjects)

Literacy – 10 credits at Level 2 or above (5 credits in reading, 5 in writing)

Numeracy – 10 credits at Level 1 or above

Mature applicants (20+ years) with evidence of aptitude or appropriate work/experience

Completion of equivalent overseas qualification as approved by Programme Leader

Special Admission: Four papers in the New Zealand Diploma in Business may allow transfer
