What You're Signing Up For

The UCOL Academy Hair, Beauty & Retail Level 2 programme is designed for secondary school learners to explore the hairdressing and beauty industry through practical experiences at training salons. It includes learning customer service skills, relevant computing skills, hair design, fashion trends, beauty concepts, anatomy, and physiology. It is delivered one day per week across several campuses and carries 24 NCEA credits. The programme offers a pathway to further tertiary-level hair and beauty qualifications. Domestic students may attend fees-free if criteria are met.

  • Unit Standard 24997 - Knowledge of theft and fraud in retail (5 Credits)
  • Unit Standard 25439 - Knowledge of sustainability in salons (2 Credits)
  • Unit Standard 27640 - Current fashion trends and history in beauty therapy (3 Credits)
  • Unit Standard 27641 - Anatomy and physiology relevance to beauty therapy (3 Credits)
  • Unit Standard 28026 - Presenting personal fashion image for hairdressing (3 Credits)
  • Unit Standard 28295 - Knowledge of serving customers in retail (5 Credits)

What you need to know first

Year 11 - 13 secondary school learner

NZ Citizen, permanent resident, or holder of visa allowing enrollment in secondary school
