What You're Signing Up For
The Bachelor of Architecture and Future Environments at AUT provides comprehensive education in architectural design, history, technology, and critical thinking. Students explore the relationship between people and the built environment, applying ethical, cultural (including Te Aranga Māori principles), and innovative methodologies. Throughout three years of studio-based study, students develop design skills, understand architectural ecologies, construction, and engage in projects ranging from small to large-scale buildings. Graduates are prepared for further professional study or diverse creative and design careers.

- Te Aranga Māori design principles
- Architectural history and contemporary practice
- Architectural methodologies, tools, and skillsets (mapping, scaling, drawing, coding, modelling, etc.)
- Material fabrication and architectural ecology
- Social context and history of home, housing, and urban environments
- Medium and large-scale building projects
- Environmental performance and integrated systems
- Innovation and entrepreneurial thinking in architecture
- Studio-based project learning
- Minor in a related or unrelated subject
What you need to know first
Meet New Zealand University Entrance requirements or approved overseas equivalent
English language requirements: IELTS (Academic) 6.0 overall, no band lower than 5.5 or equivalent
