This diploma is designed for those aiming to become Veterinary Nurses, with a focus on companion animals. Over two years (full-time), students complete technical and practical training including 750 practicum hours in animal care facilities and veterinary clinics. The programme includes a range of applied courses, block courses, and clinical placements, preparing graduates for registration and a wide variety of roles in veterinary settings. Pathways for further study, including the Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing, are available.
What you need to know first
NCEA Level 2 including 12 credits in English (Level 2+), 12 credits in Maths (Level 1+), 12 credits in relevant Science (preferably Biology, Level 1+)

Undertake and log 750 hours of practical animal care in clinics and animal facilities, including both direct contact and simulation.
OR New Zealand Certificate in Animal Care (Level 3), Animal Healthcare Assisting (Level 4), or Animal Management (Level 4)
OR a recognised equivalent qualification
Applicants must complete a health and criminal declaration (fitness to practice)
Special Admission for age 20+ if requirements not met; Discretionary Admission possible for applicants under 20
