Core skills this course teaches

Apply knowledge of production animal healthcare
Graduates will use their understanding of animal health needs to support primary production animals in rural practice.

Work collaboratively with veterinarians
Students will develop the ability to work directly and indirectly with veterinarians in various rural animal health settings.

Perform clinical and technical procedures
Gain practical skills in animal husbandry, diagnostic procedures, wound care, emergency processes, and surgical nursing.
What You're Signing Up For
This two-year diploma offers a comprehensive pathway into rural animal veterinary technology, providing students with the skills and knowledge required to work with veterinarians in rural settings. The programme focuses on healthcare of production animals, supported by both theoretical learning and practical experience through compulsory block courses and 750 hours of work placement. Graduates will be equipped for registration on the New Zealand Register of Allied Veterinary Professionals.

What you need to know first
NCEA Level 2 including at least 12 credits in English (Level 2), 12 credits in Maths (Level 1), and 12 credits in relevant Science (Level 1), or
New Zealand Certificate in Animal Management (Level 4) with relevant strands, or
Relevant NZQF Level 3 qualification or above, or a recognised equivalent
Completion of a health and criminal conviction declaration
