Become a work-ready registered physiotherapist
Graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand, enabling them to practice as physiotherapists.

What You're Signing Up For
The Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Wintec (Te Pūkenga) is a four-year, Level 7 degree designed for those committed to improving health outcomes through contemporary physiotherapy practice, with special emphasis on Māori and Pacific health and rural communities. The programme provides students with broad foundational knowledge in biomedical and social sciences, physiotherapy theory, cultural safety, and professional practice. Students learn through a blended model—block courses, marae stays, online learning, and extensive clinical placements—preparing them for work across diverse settings such as hospitals, community centres, private clinics, and sports environments. Graduates are eligible for registration and will be equipped to deliver physiotherapy services across the lifespan, including specialist and research areas.

- Human anatomy and physiology
- Movement science and musculoskeletal anatomy
- Professional interprofessional practice
- Promoting health and wellness
- Clinical focus areas: cardiorespiratory, neurological, musculoskeletal
- Evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning
- Primary care in rural and Māori health settings
- Advanced clinical reasoning and critical thinking
- Rangahau (research) methodology and projects
- Clinical placements in a range of practice settings
- Transition to new graduate/practitioner practice
What you need to know first
University Entrance (UE) or equivalent, including 14 credits in each of 3 approved subjects at Level 3, literacy and numeracy requirements
Relevant Level 4 health qualification, or equivalent
Special admission for domestic applicants 20+ with appropriate skills/experience at programme discretion
Health and immunity assessment prior to clinical practice
Current First Aid Certificate (NZQA 6400, 6401, 6402) within first 6 months
Police vetting and safety checks (Vulnerable Children's Act compliance)
IELTS 7.0 overall with minimum 6.5 each band (for non-native English speakers)
