What You're Signing Up For
Designed for support workers in mental health, addiction, residential, disability, and aged care settings, this micro-credential recognises the skills required to identify early physical health problems in people experiencing mental health or addiction challenges, and guides the support worker in knowing how to respond appropriately within their role. Graduates will be able to identify health inequities, recognise signs and symptoms needing response, develop and implement wellbeing plans, and support clients' physical health journeys while working within their scope of responsibility.

- NZ statistics for physical health inequities
- Identification of physical health inequities among various populations (Māori, ethnic minorities, rainbow, disabled, older people, rural)
- Barriers and impacts on physical health
- Recognising diagnostic overshadowing in NZ
- Identifying characteristics, symptoms, and indicators for common physical health conditions
- Understanding and responding to physical health issues within scope
- Escalation and referral protocols
- Developing and implementing wellbeing plans
- Tools and strategies to support physical health for people with mental health and/or addiction issues
What you need to know first
Learners must be currently employed in a relevant sector (e.g. mental health, addiction, disability, aged care, youth work).
Learners must have reasonable computer literacy as assessments are completed online.
