What You're Signing Up For

Careerforce's Palliative Care Assessment Package (Levels 3 & 4) enables support workers or health professionals to have their palliative and end of life care capabilities formally recognised. It is suitable for those who have completed the Hospice New Zealand Fundamentals of Palliative Care programme, are working or experienced in palliative settings, or wish to gain unit standards toward relevant Health and Wellbeing certificates (Level 3 & 4). Assessments involve short answer questions and observations and are available online or on paper. The package acknowledges participants' role in providing quality palliative care.

Course Content

  • Describe the key principles of palliative care and a support worker’s role in a palliative approach to care (Level 3 unit standard 28738)
  • Apply a palliative care approach in a health or wellbeing setting (Level 4 unit standard 29523)
  • Short answer assessments on Aka Toi or paper
  • Observed application of palliative care and last days of life care
  • Learning support for knowledge and practical skills in palliative care

What you need to know first

Attended the Hospice New Zealand Fundamentals of Palliative Care programme OR

Currently or previously working/providing support in a palliative or end of life care setting OR

Enrolled in/completed Health and Wellbeing (Level 3 Support Work/Health Assistance) or Level 4 Advanced Support strands

To enrol in Level 4, must be working in a palliative or end of life care setting and have workplace support

Access to an Assessor with the appropriate scope
