What You're Signing Up For

The Dementia Care (LCP) Level 4 programme is designed for support workers in health, disability or aged care who specialise in dementia support. It provides essential knowledge and skills for working with people affected by dementia and is delivered through workplace-based learning and assessment. The programme covers communication, person-centred care, understanding dementia, managing its effects, and supporting challenging behaviours. Learners complete four unit standards over approximately four months, earning a certificate recognised by the Age-Related Residential Care Services Agreement.

  • Providing person-centred care to a person living with dementia
  • Understanding effects of dementia and management strategies
  • Supporting a person with dementia when behaviour presents challenges

What you need to know first

Be employed as a support worker in a health, disability or aged support organisation

Have New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, valid work visa, Australian citizenship, or hold refugee status in New Zealand
