What You're Signing Up For

This one-year, level 6 diploma at AUT South Campus trains students to work as Emergency Medical Technicians, providing essential pre-hospital emergency care such as patient assessment, basic life support, and safe transport of patients in emergency and non-emergency settings. From 2026, intake is restricted to New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) students. The programme covers human anatomy, physiology, paramedic theory, professional frameworks, pathology, pathophysiology, and clinical practice.

What you need to know first

Completion of Year 12

Capable of meeting Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA Act) and Children’s Act 2014 requirements, including police clearance

Must be 18 years or older by the first day of semester

Minimum requirement of a learner drivers licence to apply

Preference may be given to those with high rank scores or evidence of prior accomplishments
