Understanding fundamentals of accounting

What You're Signing Up For
This programme provides a sound understanding of the accounting functions required in a business, equipping learners for entry-level accounting support roles or further study. Students will gain practical knowledge of financial documents, accounting software, payroll, and tax computation, allowing them to contribute effectively in business settings. The flexible, blended learning format enables participation outside of standard work hours and supports both full-time and part-time study options.
Course Content
- Accrual accounting fundamentals and principles
- Taxation accounting, including calculating and reporting tax for a business entity
- Setting up and using accounting software for transaction processing and reporting for GST registered entities
- Payroll administration, including PAYE returns, with focus on ethical and culturally appropriate practices
- Workshops and online modules in accounting support services
What you need to know first
40 credits at NCEA Level 1, including 10 Literacy credits and 10 Numeracy credits, or a relevant qualification at Level 2, OR a recognised equivalent.
Special admission possible for applicants over 20 not meeting criteria.
Discretionary admission possible for applicants under 20 not meeting criteria.
Computer literacy is highly recommended.
