What You're Signing Up For

Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary subject at the University of Auckland focused on the critical investigation of gender as a social construct. The courses interrogate influences on gender in families, workplaces, schools, media, politics, and beyond, and address how gender intersects with class, ethnicity, and religion. Students study feminist, gender, queer, and transgender theory and practice, learning about key debates and issues on women, men, and LGBTQI+. There is a strong emphasis on understanding how gender and sexuality change and persist across societies, times, and communities.
