Practical Skills in Vehicle Wheel Maintenance
Students will be able to remove and replace road wheels on vehicles safely and correctly.

Knowledge of Motor Body Parts
Students will demonstrate understanding of both exterior and interior motor body parts and trims relevant to the motor industry.

Introduction to Automotive Collision Repair
Students will gain foundational skills and knowledge to pursue further study or careers in automotive and collision repair industries.
What You're Signing Up For
The STAR Collision Repair course at UCOL is a Level 2 programme for secondary school learners (Years 11-13) interested in automotive and collision repair. It includes a mix of theoretical and hands-on workshop activities, aims to introduce learners to the automotive industry, and provides 3 NCEA credits through unit standards covering vehicle wheel removal and motor body parts knowledge. The course runs one day a week for five weeks, is fees-free for learners, and applications are made through participating schools in partnership with parents and careers advisors. Completion enables further study in automotive or collision repair certificate programmes at UCOL, and guides career exploration in the automotive repair industry.
Course Content
- Unit Standard 21869 (Level 2) - Remove and replace road wheels on a vehicle (1 Credit)
- Unit Standard 21701 (Level 2) - Demonstrate knowledge of exterior and interior motor body parts and trim in the motor industry (2 Credits)
- Theory and hands-on practical project work in automotive collision repair
- Access to fully equipped automotive and panel & paint workshops and digital learning resources
