What You're Signing Up For
The UCOL STAR Mechanical Engineering course is a Level 2 programme designed for secondary school learners (years 11-13) interested in machining and mechanical engineering. Delivered over one day per week for five weeks, the course develops skills in working with steel, tools, and gases and offers 8 NCEA credits. It aims to provide foundational engineering skills and industry awareness, preparing students for further study pathways such as the Academy Mechanical Engineering Level 2 and other related diplomas. The course is fee-free for domestic learners, with fees applying to participating schools. Classes run at UCOL campuses in Palmerston North, Whanganui, and Wairarapa (Masterton). Entry requires enrolment through participating schools and is targeted at New Zealand citizens, permanent residents or visa holders attending secondary school. Additional costs are minimal, only requiring students to bring pen, paper and lunch.
