What You're Signing Up For

This STAR course is designed for secondary school students in Year 12 or higher who are interested in practical engineering. Students gain hands-on experience working in SIT's engineering workshops, covering essential safety, welding, machining, and work practices required in mechanical engineering environments. Overalls and leather shoes are mandatory in the workshops.

Course Content

  • US21907 Demonstrate and apply knowledge of safe welding principles and quality assurance under supervision
  • US21911 Demonstrate knowledge of safety on engineering worksites
  • US29651 Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety when welding and thermal cutting
  • US29671 Demonstrate knowledge of machining equipment, tools, and principles
  • US29673 Apply good work practices when performing basic mechanical engineering machining operations under supervision

What you need to know first

Must be Year 12 or higher secondary school student

STAR/Gateway application required via school's nominated coordinator

Overalls and leather shoes required for workshop entry
