What You're Signing Up For

This STAR course provides NZ secondary school students with hands-on experience in hospitality service, focusing on table service, hot and cold non-alcoholic beverage preparation, espresso beverage making, and understanding coffee origin. Training is held in a campus café setting to prepare students for future employment in the hospitality industry.

Course Content

  • Prepare and serve hot and cold non-alcoholic drinks for a commercial hospitality establishment
  • Prepare and clear areas for table service in a commercial hospitality establishment
  • Provide table service for a commercial hospitality establishment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of coffee origin and production
  • Demonstrate knowledge of commercial espresso coffee equipment and prepare espresso beverages under supervision
  • Prepare and present pressed coffee for service
  • Prepare and present filter coffee for service
  • Prepare and present espresso beverages for service
