What You're Signing Up For

This 12-week full-time programme prepares students for crewing careers on superyachts, delivering the practical and theoretical knowledge needed for deckhand roles worldwide. The course covers STCW basic safety certification, RYA Powerboat Level 2, IAMI GUEST yacht interior and service, as well as yacht maintenance, navigation, engine operation, and essential hospitality skills including food service, barista and bartending. You will also gain experience at sea and be equipped to work under supervision on vessels operating in unlimited waters.

Course Content

  • STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) basic safety certificate: sea survival, fire fighting, first aid, personal safety, crowd management, security awareness
  • RYA (Royal Yachting Association) certificates: Powerboat Level 2, Personal Watercraft Certificate
  • IAMI (International Association of Maritime Institutions) GUEST: yacht interior operations, food service, wine introduction, bartending/mixology
  • Food safety and barista basics
  • Floristry on board
  • Yacht deck maintenance
  • Watchkeeping and navigation for yacht crew
  • Diesel and outboard motor maintenance
  • CV writing for the yachting industry
  • Practical sea experience and field trips

What you need to know first

Open entry for domestic students: no academic requirements.

Must pass a medical fitness assessment for lifesaving and firefighting training.

Must be over 18 for superyacht work experience (under 18 applicants should contact the school).
