What You're Signing Up For

This programme is designed to equip students with entry-level skills for roles within the hospitality sector, particularly in café and restaurant services. Through hands-on, practical learning in a fully equipped training kitchen, students learn food safety, how to prepare espresso beverages, bake goods, cook various foods, and deliver food service as part of a team. It is ideal for school leavers, new immigrants, and mature students without a formal qualification, and provides a stepping stone to higher-level hospitality qualifications and a range of career opportunities in food and beverage.

Course Content

  • Safety in Hospitality – identification of hazards, safe working practices, food safety and hygiene
  • Introduction to Barista Skills – preparing and presenting espresso beverages using commercial equipment
  • Introduction to Baking – preparing and presenting basic baked goods
  • Introduction to Cookery – basic cooking methods and preparing pantry foods
  • Food Service – team-based planning, preparing, and delivering food service

What you need to know first

Applicants must be at least 16 years old at the programme start (or 15 with an early leaving exemption)

Step 2 in Literacy on the LNAAT test

Able to read, write, and communicate in English at a suitable level

Basic computer skills and access to a laptop

Applicants may be screened for suitability
