What You're Signing Up For

The UCOL STAR Health & Wellbeing Foundation course offers secondary school students an opportunity to gain exposure to the health and wellbeing sector. It provides foundational knowledge and experience to help students make informed decisions about their future career paths in health, aged care, disability support, and related areas. Credits contribute to NCEA qualifications, and the course is delivered through a mix of lecturer-supported and independent learning hours.

Course Content

  • Interact with people to provide support in a health or wellbeing setting (Unit Standard 28518)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of infection control requirements in a health or wellbeing setting (Unit Standard 20826)
  • Introduction to aged care, disability support, healthcare, home & community support, social services, and nursing careers
  • Industry workplace standards (dress, behaviour)
  • Health sector career exploration and study pathways
