What You're Signing Up For

The UCOL Academy Health Programme provides secondary school students with the opportunity to experience health and wellbeing studies while working toward NCEA Level 3. The programme covers anatomy, key health issues in New Zealand, health practices, ethical considerations in well-being, dimensions of hauora, and first aid. It's designed as a foundation for students considering further study and career pathways in the health sector. Learners spend 1 day per week at UCOL, gaining practical experience and insight into future tertiary and career opportunities.

  • Anatomy and biology of human body systems
  • Health issues in New Zealand
  • Current health practices in New Zealand
  • Ethical issues relating to well-being
  • Dimensions of hauora
  • First aid (including emergency first aid management)
  • NCEA Level 2 and 3 unit standards and achievement standards

What you need to know first

Year 11-13 secondary school learner

NZ Citizen, permanent resident, or have a relevant visa for secondary schools

Application must be received from participating schools

Recommended school subjects: Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Health, and English
