What You're Signing Up For

This two-year diploma offers a clear and industry-relevant pathway to become a Rural Animal Veterinary Technician. Graduates work directly and indirectly with veterinarians in rural practices caring for primary production animals in various settings. The programme includes theoretical learning and 750 hours of work placement, delivered in a flexible facilitated format combining online study, in-person compulsory block courses in Dunedin or Wairarapa, and workplace experience. Successful completion qualifies students to apply for registration on the New Zealand Register of Allied Veterinary Professionals.

What you need to know first

NCEA Level 2 including 12 credits in English at Level 2

12 credits in Mathematics at Level 1

12 credits of relevant Science at Level 1

OR New Zealand Certificate in Animal Management (Level 4) with relevant strands

OR relevant qualification at NZQF Level 3 or above

English language requirements: IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5 or equivalent

Health declaration and disclosure of any criminal convictions for fitness to practise assessment
