What You're Signing Up For

The UCOL Academy Collision Repair Programme introduces secondary school students to the core concepts and skills necessary for collision repair and automotive refinishing. Students will explore techniques such as masking, sanding, repairing minor panel damage, the use of industry tools, interior and exterior vehicle parts, and health and safety practices. The programme supports students in working towards NCEA Level 2 while providing a firsthand taste of the automotive industry.

  • Masking and use of primers
  • Application and sanding of fillers
  • Sanding techniques
  • Basic repairs to vehicle panels
  • Tools and equipment for collision repair
  • Health and safety in the workshop
  • Petrol and fuel systems basics
  • Operation of two and four-stroke petrol and diesel engines
  • Cooling system maintenance
  • Repairing minor panel damage
  • Familiarity with interior and exterior motor body parts
  • Knowledge of fastening systems and how to use them
  • Basic work habits and safe work practices

What you need to know first

Year 11-13 secondary school learner (NZ Citizen, permanent resident, or with suitable visa for school enrollment)

Application via participating school
