What You're Signing Up For

Gain work-ready skills with this pre-apprenticeship qualification. You will learn to perform basic plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying tasks under supervision, follow industry health and safety protocols, and get certified in first aid. This hands-on programme prepares you for an apprenticeship and a career in plumbing, drainlaying or gasfitting trades. Training includes workshop-based and work-site simulations, team collaboration, and understanding of regulatory and safety requirements. Domestic and international students can enroll with full-time on-campus delivery in Dunedin, with February and July intakes.

Course Content

  • Essential Safety Skills for PGD: first aid management, basic life support, confined space hazards, asbestos safety
  • Patterns, Tools, Regulatory and Ethical Considerations: ethical and legal frameworks, tool selection and maintenance, pattern drawing for plumbing and gasfitting components
  • Introduction to Drainlaying: excavation and trenching for plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying, basic trade calculations
  • Introduction to Plumbing: properties of water and materials used in plumbing and drainlaying
  • Introduction to Gasfitting: working safely in gas contaminated environments

English language requirement: NZ University Entrance or Academic IELTS 5.0 with no band below 5.0 or acceptable equivalent
