What You're Signing Up For
The New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Allied Trades) Level 3 is a practical programme designed to provide students with the skills and experience needed to become qualified Painter and Decorators. The course includes practical sessions in surface preparation, painting, spray coating, wallpapering, scaffolding, and water-blasting. Students also gain knowledge of workplace safety fundamentals, communication, and teamwork skills. Final projects and collaborative allied trades projects provide real-world experience working with others in the construction industry. Successful completion prepares learners for further study towards Level 4 Painting and Decorating apprenticeships and Master Painter status.
Course Content
- Workplace Safety Fundamentals: covering NZ Building Code, safety legislation, hazard management, tools and equipment care, safety data sheets.
- Core Construction and Communication Skills: project specifications, plan drawings, calculations, teamwork, trade experience documentation, cultural safety.
- Allied Trades Tools, Materials and Terminology: safe use and maintenance of hand tools, job roles, interpreting project requirements, selecting tools and materials.
- Allied Trades Projects: collaborative projects involving teamwork, tool use, communication, compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

English language proficiency: NZ University Entrance or IELTS 5.0 overall with no band less than 5.0, or acceptable alternative evidence
